Occupational therapy involves helping an individual maximize his or her potential for the “job of living.”
This can include learning to be independent with self care and daily living skills, adapting the environment for increased independence, and using appropriate motor skills to coordinate movements needed in functional tasks.
Sensory processing and modulation skills such as self regulation, attaining and maintaining attention and focus, and being able to make sense of environmental stimuli are also included.
Occupational therapists also evaluate fine motor, gross motor, visual motor, and visual perceptual skills needed to complete everyday activities.
